Since the advent of the global economic crisis and the subsequent adversities on the South African and the global economic landscape, youth businesses have become a critical component in growing the current and future economy. The ANC-led government has the foresight to appreciate the importance of youth involvement in the economic activities of the country. There are several programmes designed to facilitate the involvement of young people.

It is a well-known fact that youth constitutes more than 41% of the total South African population. With the prevailing economic growth challenges, direct intervention is required to unleash and cultivate the potential of the youth to drive economic activities in South Africa. The direct effect of successful integration of young people in the mainstream economy is reduction in poverty, reduction of unemployment levels, healthier, happier and wealthier communities, increased tax base and reduction in poverty motivated crime incidents.
